L'Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique est officiellement nominée et reconnue comme CLIMATE HERO par le official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework convention on climate change (YOUNGO), lors de la Conférence des Nations Unies pour les jeunes sur le changement climatique (COY16), l'événement officiel des jeunes précurseur de la COP26. UM6P Youth Statement était la seule lettre de déclaration représentante la vision des jeunes au Royaume du Maroc lors de la COY16 à Glasgow, Écosse, Royaume-Uni. Dans ce sens, l'UM6P a décerné cette nomination à tous.tes les Marocain.e.s et résidents étrangers au Maroc. Il est important de noter que seules deux institutions ont obtenu la reconnaissance de Climate Hero au monde.
Pilotée par le département Développement Durable de l’UM6P, cette déclaration représente la vision des jeunes autour des enjeux nationaux/locaux émergents et elle englobe leurs revendications et leur contribution. Elle aborde 6 thèmes principaux, à savoir le changement climatique, l'énergie propre, les villes et communautés durables, l'éco-mobilité, l'inclusion sociale et l'égalité des sexes. Elle a été rédigée par des représentants des jeunes de l'UM6P et de la région locale de Rhamna où ils se sont réunis tel un Comité Consultatif des Jeunes pour la COY16 en 3 sessions pour débattre et discuter ces enjeux émergents et les engagements des jeunes. Ce comité a été très inclusif avec la participation de jeunes représentants de différentes nationalités, sexes, races, ethnies, religions et personnes à mobilité réduite. En outre, il a eu diverses présentations de jeunes de l'UM6P et de différentes régions du Maroc dont Benguerir, Youssoufia, Sidi Bouathmane ainsi que d'autres communautés rurales pour assurer une participation inclusive et équitable.
L'Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique, partenaire à la 16 édition de la Conférence des Nations Unies sur le changement climatique, s'engage à diriger, mettre en œuvre et défendre l'action climatique à travers trois grands engagements principaux :
1. Réduire son empreinte carbone en organisant des initiatives annuelles de plantation d'arbres dans l’objectif de promouvoir l'éco-mobilité en construisant un parc à vélos, accessible et abordable à toute la communauté UM6P ;
2. Mettre en œuvre le mouvement zéro déchet sur tout le campus et son écosystème en installant un système de tri des déchets et en éliminant les déchets par la réduction, la réutilisation et le recyclage (campagne de gourdes réutilisables, poubelles de tri des déchets, recycleurs de vêtements et centre de tri sélectif des déchets) ;
3. Promouvoir l'inclusion sociale en engageant les coopératives locales et en autonomisant les femmes et les jeunes filles de la région.
Ces engagements incluent et impliquent un impact direct ou indirect sur la région locale où ils engagent, mobilisent et autonomisent les femmes, les ouvriers, les artisans et les fournisseurs locaux, etc.

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is officially nominated and recognized as a CLIMATE HERO by the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework convention on climate change, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Youth 16 (COY16), the official precursor youth event of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). UM6P Youth Statement was the only policy paper representing youth vision in the Kingdom of Morocco during the COY16 at Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. In that sense, UM6P has brought this nomination Home to all Moroccans and residents in Morocco. It is important to note that only two institutions got the climate Hero recognition worldwide.
Led by the Sustainable Development department, this youth statement represents the youth vision of national and local emerging issues and englobes their demands and their contribution. It tackles 6 main themes, namely, climate change, clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, eco-mobility, social inclusion, and gender equality. It was drafted by youth representatives of UM6P and the local region of Rhamna who have been gathered as the COY16 Youth Consultative Committee in 3 sessions to debate and discuss the emerging issues and youth commitments. This committee was very inclusive with the participation of young representatives from different nationalities, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and individuals with special disabilities. Moreover, it had various presentations of youth from UM6P and different regions of Morocco including Benguerir, Youssoufia, Sidi Bouathmane as well as other rural communities to ensure inclusive and fair participation.
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, taking part of UN Climate Change Conference of Youth 16, commits to leading, implementing and advocating for climate action through three big main commitments:
1. Reduce its carbon footprint by organizing annual trees planting initiatives and implement eco-mobility by building a bicycle park, accessible and affordable to all UM6P community;
2. Implement Zero Waste Movement all over campus and its ecosystem by installing waste sorting system and eliminating waste through reducing, reusing and recycling (Reusable mugs campaign, Waste sorting bins, clothes recyclers, and waste disposal center);
3. Promote social inclusion by engaging local cooperatives and empowering women and young girls of the region.
These commitments include and imply a direct or an indirect impact on the local region where they engage, mobilize and empower local women, workers, artisans and suppliers…etc.
